Volumetric rendering through Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) for photorealistic reconstruction of products and interior scenes in extended reality platforms.


In recent years, the deployment of mixed reality strategies has made a strong impact in the habitat industry, aiming to enhance visualization during the design and manufacturing of new products. It also supports co-creation processes and communication in interior design projects involving manufacturers, specifiers (architects and interior designers), space promoters, and end users.

In this context, the REALINT project focuses its research on the use of a recently developed technology known as Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) to create digital models of real habitat products and scenes. These models are then utilized in various extended reality applications such as Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. It's worth noting that the application of NeRF technology in the field of architecture and interior design has been extremely limited to date, despite its significant potential impact.


Transferable results to companies

The project's results will be applied to the digitization and improvement of processes in the value chain of design, manufacturing, prescription, and marketing of habitat sector products, specifically:

  • Designers and manufacturers of habitat products will increase their competitiveness by reducing the number of iterations with specifiers and end customers, and by enhancing their ability to add value to their products during the design, sales, and post-sales processes.

  • Habitat product specifiers or space designers will increase the impact and alignment of their designs through new, more immediate and interactive digital formats, and with a higher level of realism.

  • Space promoters will anticipate the detection of costly risks and deviations, as well as validate alternatives regarding the user experience before moving on to the execution or physical intervention phase of a space.
